God could have created the universe any way that He wanted. The universe was created from a totally blank slate—absolute nothingness—and He merely spoke it into existence. The fundamental forces, such as gravity and electromagnetism, didn’t even exist. He created the very laws of nature and physics that scientists have been trying to unravel for generations.
But God didn’t just create the universe in a cold and clinical way, He did it with great compassion and understanding of His creation. He left behind His fingerprints so we would have evidence of Him and know it was Him that did it and not some cosmic fluke or accident.
God’s very creation displays His power and nature. Creation mirrors the nature of God Himself and gives us insight into how He wants us to understand Him.
One aspect of creation from which we can draw some understanding is the distinction between night and day. Genesis 1:3 talks about how God created the light and the darkness and there was day and night for the first time, and it was good.
We have bodies that grow weary and tired. We have to sleep to renew our strength. This was very intentional. Every morning is a new day; we are renewed in our strength and refreshed by the possibilities of a new day. Isn’t that exactly what the salvation of God is about… Being a brand-new creation?
On a larger scope, look also at the seasons. Winter is a darker, colder time of rest followed by spring, a season of rejuvenation and activity. This is a continual process, whether daily or seasonally. God offers us a newness each and every day to live a Spirit-led life, being guided by Him.
Right now, no matter where you are in life, you can choose a different perspective, you can choose to be different, and you can choose to start fresh. It’s never too late to be brand new.
